Leaving

I hate how our friends are always leaving,

I’m tired of constantly crying and grieving.

They arrive in the country and we become friends,

And it seems like our hearts might be on the mend.

We grow close to them and we love them dearly,

And we miss them loads when they visit home yearly.

Then when they come back they have heartbreaking news,

That our new best friends we’re about to lose.

In a matter of weeks or sometimes days,

They’re about to leave and we have to part ways.

I hate goodbyes, I say them too often,

And hugs and tears do nothing to soften,

That awful feeling that makes me cry,

As they go on their way and I say goodbye.

They go to their plane and say they’ll visit one day,

But I know by now not to believe what they say.

They say they will visit but they never do,

They don’t even try to keep in touch with you.

Well maybe one day I’ll have a friend,

Who I don’t need to say goodbye to ever again.
