WAR

WAR

I never have and never will, understand war.

Hundreds upon thousands and even more,

Of people dead, their lives cut short.

This mission called war, I beg you to abort.

How would you feel if your children were dead?

Or your parents by handcuffs away were led?

They are innocent except for what, existing?

Lines of eager young men enlisting,

To serve their country and their king,

With dreams of victory home to bring.

But within days of being within the tank,

In squalid trenches, of marching in rank,

The reality of war begins to hit hard,

As the warring sides begin to bombard.

Sounds of bullets split the air,

Screams of terror, a pleading prayer.

One bullet shot means the end of a life,

Never again to see their children or wife.

That dreaded yellow telegram arriving at the door,

To find out that a loved one is alive no more.

The simple wooden box is sent back home,

To be laid in the ground all alone.

A small wooden cross planted in the ground,

At the end of the little grave mound.

What really is the point of war?

It doesn’t solve your problems, it creates even more.

Yes it isn’t simple, but please let’s all try,

To strive for peace, and to war say goodbye.
