Wall of Water
Wall of Water
I jumped out of the car in a frenzy of excitement and gazed out at the endless expanse of sea.
What possibilities! I was already running towards it when I heard my sister calling me. I skidded
to a stop, closed my eyes, as though summoning strength, and twisted slowly around in the sand
to face her. I opened my eyes.
"Yeah, sure, you do that! You run off and have fun while we unpack!" my sister said, annoyed.
"Alright I will, thanks!" I replied cheekily, about to turn around and run for it.
"Lydia Bean, you come back here and help your sister unpack now! " my mother yelled.
I turned around resignedly and made my way to the car, avoiding the temptation to send the
water in our big plastic bottle shooting up and all over my family.
After we had unpacked and settled on a sunny spot on the beach, I kicked my flip-flops off and sprinted down to the blue sea. At the water's edge, I stripped off my hoodie and shorts and, in my swimming costume, dipped my toes into the blue, sparkling waves. It was warm, and oh, so glorious! Without hesitation, I dived in and swum front crawl a little deeper. My body tingled all over, and I felt like I had been reunited with the water. "Hi!" I giggled, as the waves rose up and waved at me. Then one came forward and hugged me. "It's nice to see you again!" Another wave came forward and jabbed at the air in the direction of a load of surfers. They were sitting on the sand, looking glum and staring longingly at the still sea. "You think so?" The wave nodded. I grinned. "Let's do this!" and I high-fived the water. While watching the sad surfers, I rose my hands up in the air, as if I was pulling something out of the water. Instead, the sea in front of me rose up into a wall of water. I pushed my hand down, making the sea splash downwards again, making a huge wave, and sweeping my feet off the sea floor, only to land back down again with a soft thud. I swept my arms up again creating another wall of water, then down again, transforming it into another wave. I controlled the water, creating about ten more waves, then I left it alone, however, with my power, I made sure the waves didn't stop. At about the 5th wave, the surfers had taken notice and leapt excitedly to their feet, calling their mates to join them. Then they had grabbed their surfboards and streaked down to the water. In five seconds they were in, and by the time I had finished making the waves, they were yelling excitedly to each other, obviously marveling at the fact that there were suddenly so many waves on such a clear, sunny day. I sighed contently and floated about on my back, with my wave friends bobbing along beside me.
