Gone
“No! You can’t take her! You can’t take my
baby! No!”
My mother is sobbing as she runs down the
corridor after me.
I’m confused. Mum doesn’t usually cry when we
play tag. I giggle and wave my arms around.
“Dada?” I twist around to see my dad who is holding
me, and get a shock. It’s not daddy. Who is this strange man?
“Mummy? Mummy!” I start to cry, my vision
getting blurred with tears.
“No! Give me my daughter! Give her back!”
The man is starting to run faster.
“Shut up, you silly girl!” He bellows as Mum
starts to cry out again.
“You can’t take her, stop! Give me my baby!”
Mum starts to choke on her tears, and she stumbles, falling onto the floor.
“Mama!” I scream. “Mama!”
We are now hurtling through a door and mum has
gotten up again, chasing after us.
People poke their heads out of the doors along
the corridor, some in hospital gowns, others fully dressed, but all looking
scared and confused.
We tear out of the hospital doors, and they
slam shut behind us. I wait for mum to follow, but I can’t see her. Where is
she, what happened?
Then suddenly I see her. She looks panicked and
bangs her fists against the glass door.
I’m confused. Why isn’t my mum coming? Why isn’t
she coming to get me? Mum seems to be saying something. I can’t make it out. I
call out back to her, but she doesn’t hear either. Mum is getting further and
further away. I’m fighting the man, but he is too strong, and I soon let my
body fall limp. Then he pushes me into the back of the van as mum slumps to the
ground and the van doors slam into my face.
